Frequently Asked Questions
INGREDIENTS & PACKAGING

What makes organic skincare products different?

All the ingredients that go into our products are USDA-certified organic, which means they must pass rigorous third-party testing. Furthermore, all of our ingredients are food-grade – held to the same standard as the organic produce grown for human consumption.

Where do you source your ingredients?
Where possible, we source ingredients from local organic farmers and producers. Our Fair Trade Organic Shea Butter is sourced from Ghana.

Why are only some of your products Fair Trade Certified?

We're working towards Fair Trade Certified ingredients in all our products, but not all of the ingredients we need are available as Fair Trade Certified. We consistently monitor the supply chain and move toward Fair Trade Certified ingredients where possible.

Why do some of your products contain alcohol?
We use a naturally derived alcohol that comes from the
sugar cane plant and is used for prolonging product shelf-life, the astringent properties, and a smoother application. Our version is ethyl-based which is less harsh and drying than isopropyl alcohol found in other skin care products. By law, alcohol used in products must be denatured, which means small amounts of essential oils are added to make it inedible.

Why do some of your products contain Potassium Hydroxide?
People have been turning oil or fat into soap for hundreds of years. Potassium hydroxide is an important part of the soap making process called saponification. Once the reaction occurs, no potassium hydroxide remains in the finished product. We list it in our ingredients to keep customers informed about what is in the product and amount.

Is your Shea Butter refined or unrefined?
We purify our shea through clay to remove impurities that can cause it to turn or smell bad. We then expose it to sun to soften it and use steam to deodorize. Because of this process our shea is considered naturally refined which delivers a truly full-benefit, 100% fair trade shea butter.

What are the ingredients present in “organic fragrance”?
All of our organic natural fragrances are extracted from essential oils. The extracts are then blended to create some of the more complex scents that we offer. They are all 100% natural, organic, and contain no synthetic ingredients.

Which of your products are vegan?
The vast majority of our products are vegan except products that contain beeswax: our stick deodorant, Skin Solve, and Argan Oil Balm. To be sure your favorite product is vegan, look for the seal on the product page.

Do your products work for all skin types?
Our products are formulated to work with all skin types, but different product combinations may be required to see the full benefit.

Is the plastic you use for packaging BPA-Free?
We do not use bisphenol A in our bottles; our bottles are HDPE – High-Density Polyethylene. PVC and PS bottle have been linked to having the potential for leaching bisphenol A into the product they hold. We do not use either of those components. We are a green company and do extensive research on our raw materials and components so that we only use the very best and safest materials for your body.

FACIAL CLEANING SYSTEM

How often should I replace the brush heads on my facial cleansing device?
Brush heads will last 30 days with normal use, but this depends on the frequency of use and amount of makeup. Rinsing the brush after each use to remove dirt and makeup can extend the life of the brush head.

Why is my facial cleansing device slowing down?
After about 30 days of regular use, you might notice a drop in power. Installing a fresh set of batteries will return your device to its regular speed.
